Journey HomeI stand on the lake’s shore, toes bathed in water and sand. I breathe in the cool fresh air and shiver. It’s not the same. I start to walk out into the water and the steady in and out of the water laps against my knees. I lower my arms and drag my hands through the loose plant life and algae drifting on the surface. It’s not the same.

I turn to face the familiar voice calling out to me. The sight of my older brother warms my heart and eases my homesickness just a little.

I call out into the night, sitting up to look through the red and orange fire at the girl prodding it with a burnt stick. Even in the firelight she looks like little more than a shadow. Or a ghost.

“Can’t sleep? You’re not afraid of some lonesome dogs are you?”

She asks, looking up at me with a raised eyebrow and a mischievous smirk.

“Yes. And no. I was just thinking of home. That’s all.”

Another little touch of HDR techniques to the photo, this time going for a more subtle look. I really like how the baby giraffe looks in comparison to my original shot actually.

I've always loved the coloring patterns on giraffes. It looks like someone painted them on there.
